Windows
I’m not entirely sure what motivated the whole “window” concept on this layout with the medium size flowers and pattern paper, but it’s a technique I want to explore more on future projects. There’s a sort of whimsical, peek-a-boo effect that results from creating windows or “mini worlds” on layouts. They beg to be looked at like the old panorama eggs (the solid ones made of sugar) my grandmother used to own when I was a little girl. Tiny windows. Hidden worlds. Did I mention I have a sweet tooth too? I wanted so badly to eat those panorama eggs my grandmother shared with me…extremely tempting, especially for a kid like me.
To
keep the focus on the interior of flowers, I used a similar color cardstock to
create the flowers (using my Slice Machine). I then used a contrasting pattern
paper behind the flowers and popped the flowers “up” with Foam Core Pop Dots.
The result is these funky, fun flower windows. Because the top area of the
layout is already busy with the flowers, I decided to keep the bottom portion
of the layout “simple”. I used
very few layers of cardstock and only a few embellishments. I also did some
stamping with OA’s journaling stamp set, “Journal This”, and one of my favorite
OA stamp sets, “Detours”. Note that most items used for this layout are from OA
accept for the flowers, which are from “Making Memories” & “We R’ Memory
Keepers”.
With
a little bit of time off from work, I spent a few extra hours on scrapbooking
this week. It feels tremendously good to focus my energy on something entirely
creative. I also had a chance to
spend more time with Ethan. Today, we cooked a big meal for dinner. Ethan
wanted to join in on the cooking session. He sat and stood on the dishwasher
door as usual to watch “mom” cook. At some point, he must of lost interest in
what I was doing because I suddenly found him brushing his hair with my dish
scrubber from the sink. Silly boy. I took a few photos of his curiosity for the
scrubber turned brush. The photos
should make for a great story. Kids have quite the imagination!
